Brackenfield Leisure Centre: Ground Floor Guide
Skip to the questions ↓Welcome
Brackenfield Leisure Centre reopened in January after an eighteen-month rebuild, and the ground floor has been completely redesigned. This leaflet explains where everything is, so that members and visitors can find their way around without having to ask. The upper floor, which holds the meeting rooms and staff offices, is not open to the public.
Arriving
The main doors are at the south-east corner of the building, and Reception is the first thing you will see as you come in. Staff here sell day passes, take bookings for courts and classes, and hand out locker keys. Directly to the west of Reception is the café, a long, bright room facing the car park, which serves hot meals until 7 pm. Beyond the café, in the south-west corner of the building, is the spin studio, where indoor cycling classes run every weekday evening.
The middle of the building
Behind Reception, on the eastern side of the building, is the First Aid Room, which is staffed whenever the centre is open. Next to it, on its western side, is the fitness suite, with more than sixty exercise machines and a separate free-weights area. The Crèche is at the western end of this part of the building. Children aged between six months and five years can be left there for up to two hours while a parent uses the centre.
Further in
A wide Main Corridor runs west from the Stairs, which are on the eastern side of the building. At the western end of the corridor you will find the dance studio, which has a sprung floor and full-length mirrors and is used for everything from ballet to Zumba.
The north side
The Sports Hall fills the north-west corner of the building and can be set up for badminton, basketball, netball or five-a-side football. The Changing Rooms are in the north-east corner, and between them and the Sports Hall are the squash courts, which can be booked up to a week in advance.
Opening hours and rules
The centre is open from 6.30 am to 10 pm on weekdays and from 8 am to 8 pm at weekends. Outdoor shoes must not be worn in the Sports Hall or in either studio, and children under eight must be supervised by an adult at all times. Lockers take a £1 coin, which is returned when you open the locker again.
