Band 8 sample letter

Dear Dr. Aris,

I am writing to express my strong interest in volunteering as a guest speaker for your upcoming career series at the college. Having recently read your notice regarding industry professionals sharing their experiences, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my career in software architecture.

My presentation would focus on the transition from academic theory to practical application within the technology sector. I intend to provide a realistic overview of the daily challenges and rewards involved in leading development teams, while also highlighting the essential soft skills that are rarely covered in a classroom environment.

Students would likely find this talk engaging as the tech industry is a popular career path, yet many are unaware of the collaborative nature of the role. I can offer firsthand insight into how they might bridge the gap between their current studies and the expectations of modern employers, which I believe would be highly beneficial for those nearing graduation.

I would be available to visit the college on Wednesday, 15th November, at 2:00 pm. Please let me know if this time aligns with your current schedule, or if you would prefer an alternative date.

Yours sincerely,

Jonathan Sterling
