Survey results of urban residents' opinions on city life aspects

The tables compare the opinions of urban residents regarding six aspects of city life in 1980 and 2010. Overall, there was a notable shift in sentiment, with healthcare, shops, and transport systems seeing increased approval ratings, whereas education and the environment experienced a decline in positive perception.

In 1980, education was the most highly regarded aspect, with 82% of residents rating it as 'good', followed by shops at 75% and the environment at 72%. Conversely, transport systems and accommodation had the lowest positive ratings at 54% and 56% respectively. By 2010, healthcare emerged as the most positively viewed category, rising from 64% to 83%. Similarly, satisfaction with shops increased to 81%, and the transport system saw a rise to 67%.

In contrast, the proportion of residents who felt education was 'good' fell to 76% by 2010, while the 'bad' rating for this category nearly doubled from 6% to 11%. The environment also saw a decline in positive sentiment, dropping from 72% to 64%, with the 'bad' rating more than doubling from 8% to 20%. Finally, while accommodation saw an increase in positive ratings to 65%, the percentage of residents viewing it as 'bad' also rose from 10% to 18%.
