Read Aloud appears 6–7 times in PTE Academic and PTE Core, early in Part 1. Use the preparation time to split the text into meaningful chunks, and stress the words that carry the information.
These are BandLadder-original texts, not official Pearson questions. Time yourself: 30–40 seconds to prepare, then read aloud and record it. In the model readings, a slash (/) marks a short pause. To record yourself with the real timers, practise it on the set page.

Aseptic Liquid Cartons
46 words
Aseptic beverage cartons combine thin layers of paperboard, aluminium and polyethylene to preserve perishable liquids without refrigeration. Although this composite architecture extends shelf life considerably, the tight bonding between dissimilar materials complicates mechanical separation during recycling, requiring specialised industrial pulping facilities to recover usable paper fibres.

Sample 2 · Childhood Praise and Development
Immediate Feedback and Persistence
40 words
When instructors deliver praise immediately after a task, young learners demonstrate greater persistence across difficult assignments. Although delayed commendation still acknowledges achievement, rapid reinforcement helps children connect effort directly with success, thereby strengthening their intrinsic motivation during subsequent academic exercises.

Weathering Steel in Civic Monuments
44 words
When contemporary sculptors select weathering steel for outdoor installations, they exploit its capacity to develop a protective oxide layer. Although atmospheric moisture initially induces superficial corrosion, this stable patina eventually seals the underlying alloy, ensuring structural longevity without the requirement for toxic protective coatings.

Stormwater Retention Mechanics

Engineered substrate layers effectively capture precipitation, which substantially reduces the volume of urban runoff. Because these porous materials store water before releasing it through controlled evapotranspiration, municipal drainage systems experience significantly less pressure during severe rainfall events. Consequently, surrounding neighbourhoods face a much lower risk of localised surface flooding.

Stellarator Magnetic Field Geometry
39 words
Unlike symmetrical devices, stellarators rely on complex, twisted magnetic coils to confine superheated plasma without internal electrical currents. Although these convoluted geometries require immense computational power to design, they offer continuous operation and inherent stability against abrupt plasma disruptions.

Persistence of Vision in Optics
50 words
Early optical toys relied on persistence of vision to generate the illusion of movement from sequential static drawings. When these separate illustrations were spun rapidly inside a cylindrical device, the human eye blended them into a continuous action, demonstrating fundamental cognitive processes that later underpinned the development of cinematic projection.

Dopamine Pathways and Video Games
39 words
Interactive digital games stimulate neural reward pathways through unpredictable reinforcement schedules. When children experience frequent dopamine surges during gameplay, ordinary classroom activities often seem unrewarding by comparison. Consequently, sustained attention during quiet academic tasks becomes increasingly difficult to maintain.

Sample 9 · Theatre Architecture and Design
Proscenium Arch Acoustic Functions
48 words
Although the proscenium arch primarily frames theatrical action, its structural geometry dramatically alters natural acoustic reflections. Because early designers lacked computational modelling, they constructed deep plaster mouldings that scattered high-frequency reverberations. Consequently, modern restoration teams must preserve these ornate surfaces to sustain balanced auditory clarity without electronic enhancement.

What is Read Aloud in PTE?+
The first scored speaking task: a text of up to 60 words appears on screen, you get 30–40 seconds to read it silently, and then you read it aloud once after the tone. It is in both PTE Academic and PTE Core.
How many Read Aloud questions are in the PTE test?+
Six or seven, in both PTE Academic and PTE Core, according to Pearson's Score Guides.
How is Read Aloud scored?+
Three traits: Content, Pronunciation (0–5) and Oral Fluency (0–5). Content counts errors: every word you replace, leave out or add is one error, so the maximum depends on the length of the text.
What if I make a mistake while reading?+
Keep going. Content counts each wrong, missing or extra word once, but stopping to go back adds hesitation and repetition, which lowers Oral Fluency too.
Does Read Aloud count towards Reading?+
In PTE Academic, the July 2025 Score Guide counts it towards Speaking only. In PTE Core it still counts towards Reading and Speaking.
