Why BandLadder is the best IELTS practice platform for 2027

Free AI marks for speaking and writing that come back every day, marking built on the public band descriptors, and study tools for every step, not only tests.
  • 2 speaking + 2 writing marks a day, free
  • 50+ full mocks
  • Academic and General Training
  • iOS and Android

The short answer

We think BandLadder is the best place to practise for IELTS in 2027. It has the most generous free AI marking for speaking and writing of the 13 platforms we checked, and the only published daily allowance covering both: 2 speaking and 2 writing marks every day, up to 120 a month, with no card. Every Reading and Listening module test is free and scored, and the study tools come with it.

Disclosure: this is BandLadder's own page about BandLadder, so read it with that in mind. The evidence is linked so you can check it, and the free tiers cost nothing to compare yourself.

Marking

How close are the scores to real results?

Writing and speaking are scored on the four public IELTS criteria, with an overall band using the official rounding. We have not yet matched our IELTS mocks with official IELTS results, so we make no accuracy claim for them today. We are collecting official results from learners, and will publish every one under the same rule we use for PTE. AI bands are practice estimates, not official scores.

A cross-exam result: Vernica J. practised PTE on BandLadder, not IELTS, and averaged 85 across 4 full mocks (84, 85, 85, 86) in the 90 days before sitting IELTS General Training in September 2026, where she scored 8.5 overall. Our PTE to IELTS converter puts 85 at band 8.0, so the mocks were half a band cautious. This is one learner and a converted score across two different exams, so it is supporting evidence only.

The free tier

Of the 13 IELTS platforms we checked, BandLadder is the only one that publishes a free daily allowance covering both speaking and writing. The closest published allowance is AI4IELTS at 15 marks a month. If free full mocks are all you want, IELTS Beacon says all its tests are free and British Council IELTS Ready gives 2, while we give 1. IELTS Beacon does not mark speaking.
