What IELTS score do you need for American University of Beirut (AUB)?

AUB calls the graduate standard Readiness for University Studies in English (RUSE). You are exempt if you completed a degree or professional diploma at AUB or AUB-M, or a degree at an accredited institution in North America, Great Britain, Australia or New Zealand. Exemption also covers a degree finished no more than five years ago at an accredited institution elsewhere, if English is its only listed language of instruction and its entry tests meet AUB's scores.

Graduate scores for IELTS, TOEFL iBT and Duolingo stay valid for two years, AUB-EN for one year, and GRE and GMAT for five. The graduate table has no row for IELTS 6.5, so ask the Graduate Council how it treats that score.

Undergraduates with SAT English of 530 or above are placed in English 102 and may take the Writing Placement Test. Below 530, you take AUB-EN, TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic. The table also has English 100A and 100B bands for AUB-EN and TOEFL, with no IELTS figure beside them. Certain transfer, visiting, exchange, non-degree, diploma and second-degree applicants can be exempt.

Graduate students placed in English 300 must complete it within their first two regular semesters. A score below the English 300 range means you cannot register as a graduate student. You can retake a test instead, but AUB does not accept new scores once you have registered for the course.

Accepted graduate applicants cannot join their programme until official scores reach the Graduate Council by its deadline, and some scholarships ask for scores earlier. Admitted undergraduates upload TOEFL or IELTS results to the student portal.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your AUB programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
