ASU TOEFL minimums by level
From ASU's undergraduate English proficiency page and graduate English proficiency page. For undergraduate tests on or after 21 January 2026, every programme also needs 3.5 in each section.

ASU's TOEFL rules
ASU accepts the TOEFL iBT at a test centre, and the Home Edition for exams on or after 21 January 2026; it does not accept the TOEFL iBT Paper Edition. Scores must arrive electronically under institutional code 4007, and the test must be no more than two years before your ASU start date.
For comparison, ASU sets IELTS Academic at 6.0 overall for undergraduates and 6.5 for graduates.

If your TOEFL score is below ASU's level
ASU's Global Launch English programmes are another route. Undergraduates can complete Global Launch courses, and select graduate schools accept the Global Launch online or campus immersion programme, or the English for Graduate Admission and Achievement course. Completion must be no more than two years old at your start date.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your ASU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
