What TOEFL score do you need for the Australian Institute of Higher Education?

The policy says certificates must have been issued within two years before the course starts. It sets section minimums for every level, higher for the two research courses than for coursework.

AIH gives its TOEFL figures on the 0 to 120 scale. Since January 2026 TOEFL iBT score reports also carry a 1 to 6 band score; see the new TOEFL score scale.

For comparison, the same policy sets Academic IELTS 6.0 (no band below 5.5) for bachelor courses and 6.5 (no band below 6.0) for master's coursework.

Your offer and your visa are separate. Home Affairs says that for a TOEFL iBT result to be valid for Australian visa purposes you must select 'Taking TOEFL for Australia' when you register, and it lists TOEFL iBT Home Edition among the online tests it does not accept (Home Affairs English page).

The policy accepts other evidence, including an approved English for Academic Purposes program from an ELICOS provider with a direct entry agreement, or at least two units at AQF Level 5 or higher at an Australian provider in the previous 12 months.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your AIH programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
