How Baruch handles TOEFL scores

Undergraduate test scores go electronically to CUNY code 2950, and the catalog also asks for a paper copy of official results for every test except IELTS. A score of 480 or higher on the SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section exempts undergraduates from TOEFL. Zicklin says TOEFL scores are valid for two years.

For comparison, the undergraduate catalog sets IELTS at 6.5, and Zicklin recommends IELTS Academic 7.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. Where a page above gives only a 0 to 120 figure, that is the figure this guide reports.

If your TOEFL score is below Baruch's level

None of the Baruch pages describe conditional admission for a low TOEFL score. CUNY's graduate international students page lists English language institutes at several CUNY colleges that help students prepare for the English proficiency exams.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Baruch programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
