University English requirements

What TOEFL score do you need for Belmont University?

Belmont University sets a TOEFL minimum of 80, or 4 on the 1 to 6 scale, for international first-year applicants. Transfer applicants need 80. Non-US citizens must meet an English requirement before Belmont makes an admission decision, and three years of US high school without ESL coursework is one of the alternatives.

How Belmont handles TOEFL scores

Belmont lists the TOEFL among more than a dozen ways to meet its English requirement, alongside SAT, ACT, GCSE, IB and Cambridge results. Transfer applicants' TOEFL figure is given on the 0 to 120 scale only; TOEFL iBT score reports from January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score, which our guide to the new TOEFL score scale explains.

For comparison, the same page sets IELTS at 6.5 for both first-year and transfer applicants.

If your TOEFL score is below Belmont's level

The page lists no conditional admission. Other routes include 550 on SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, 23 on ACT English or Reading, a C or 4 in GCSE English language, and Duolingo 115 for first-year applicants or 105 for transfers.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Belmont programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
