How Boston College handles TOEFL scores

Undergraduates can sit the TOEFL iBT at a test centre or as the Home Edition. BC does not superscore English tests and does not consider TOEFL MyBest score reports. The undergraduate page notes that TOEFL will report on both the 120-point and six-point scales until January 2028.

The Carroll School also says it does not accept the MyBest score at this time. For the Morrissey graduate school, TOEFL scores count if the test was taken no more than two years before the programme deadline.

For comparison, BC recommends IELTS 7.5 for undergraduates, the Carroll School requires IELTS 7.5, and the Morrissey graduate school requires 7.0.

If your TOEFL score is below Boston College's level

None of the pages offers conditional admission or an English pathway. Undergraduates can meet the requirement instead with 650 or above on SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing or 29 on ACT English, and BC encourages an optional InitialView interview, which does not replace the English test.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Boston College programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
