METU English requirements

The interview decides
METU says all applicants must take part in an online admission interview, where they prove their language skills. If you do not reach the required level, you will not get direct admission even with a certificate. Bachelor's applicants also write an online mathematics test during the interview.
Applicants who fall short but qualify for the English Language Preparatory Program are offered one or two semesters of it before their degree. Duolingo and PTE are not named on these pages.

Fees and how to check
There is a EUR 150 application fee and a EUR 100 registration fee, both non-refundable. The bachelor's lasts seven semesters (210 ECTS) and the master's four semesters.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your METU programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Budapest Metropolitan University (METU) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

What IELTS does Budapest Metropolitan University need?+

Is there an English interview at METU?+
Yes. Every applicant has an online admission interview, and the decision is based on the English shown there.
What if my IELTS is below 5.5 for METU?+
If you are eligible, METU offers one or two semesters of its English Language Preparatory Program first. The one-semester course asks for IELTS 4.0.
Does METU accept TOEFL?+
Yes: TOEFL 69 or above for bachelor's and 79 or above for master's.
