CSUCI TOEFL minimums by level
From the undergraduate international admissions page and the graduate international admissions page.
| Level or programme | TOEFL iBT minimum | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate | 61 | 3.5 for tests taken after 21 Jan 2026 |
| Graduate | 80 | 4.0 for tests taken after 21 Jan 2026 |
How CSUCI handles TOEFL scores
Both pages give the ETS code as 0236. First-year applicants who graduated from and attended three years at a high school in the US or a listed English-speaking country do not need a test. Graduate applicants with a bachelor's degree from the US, Canada, the UK or another listed country are also exempt.
For comparison, the undergraduate page sets IELTS at 6.0 overall and the graduate page at 6.5.

If your TOEFL score is below CSUCI's level
Neither page describes conditional admission or an English pathway for applicants below the TOEFL minimum.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your CSUCI programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
