Can you re-record your answer in PTE?

No. The Test Taker Handbook says you will not have an opportunity to re-record your responses, and Pearson's task pages say you can record each answer only once, including the unscored Personal Introduction. If the recording closes early because you paused, the answer stands. If your equipment fails, raise your hand at once: that is a technical problem for the Test Administrator, not a reason to re-record.

One recording per task

The Test Taker Handbook lists the speaking rules: you speak into a microphone and are recorded, and you will not have an opportunity to re-record your responses. Pearson's format page repeats it under each task: 'You are only able to record your response once.'

You also cannot go back to an earlier question to change an answer. The handbook says so for the whole test.

If the recording went wrong

If your headset, microphone or computer fails, raise your hand immediately. The handbook says the Test Administrator will help with hardware or software problems or distractions that affect your ability to take the test, and the equipment check at the start exists to catch faults before you begin.

If the microphone closed because you were silent for three seconds, Pearson treats that as your answer. The status shows 'Completed' and you click Next.

Making the single take count

Use the preparation time: 30–40 seconds for Read Aloud, 25 seconds for Describe Image and 10 seconds for Respond to a Situation in PTE Academic (Pearson). Start after the tone, keep a steady pace and do not stop to correct small slips. Pearson's tips say correcting yourself uses up time and loses points.
