Can you use Grammarly or predictive text on the Duolingo English Test?

No. Duolingo says you must not use predictive text or any writing assistant, naming Grammarly as an example, and you must not copy or memorise answers from other sources. Close such apps before the test, consider uninstalling them temporarily, and switch off non-Latin keyboard input methods such as pinyin so you type with a standard input method.

Preparing your computer

On a Mac, right-click each app icon and choose Quit. On Windows, quit all programs, then close everything in the system tray or notification area. Duolingo also suggests checking Task Manager for background processes and uninstalling, until after the test, any app that checks spelling or grammar or offers predictive text (help centre, writing assistants).

Memorised answers and the consequences

You cannot copy or memorise answers from other sources for any question. Practising similar questions is fine, but your response must address the topic in front of you, in your own words (help centre).

Possible misconduct, meaning strong evidence of help from a person or external resource, makes your credit expire, though you can appeal; evident misconduct permanently blocks you (consequences). See Duolingo account blocked or suspended. Rules and fees change. Check the test owner's own page before you book or pay. This guide is general information, not official advice from ETS or Duolingo.
