What TOEFL score do you need for Charles Darwin University?

Tests are valid for two years from the test date to the date you start at CDU. CDU accepts results from two sittings of TOEFL within six months if both are the same test, both meet the overall minimum, and each section minimum is met in at least one of them. For the Bachelor of Nursing, tests are valid for 12 months and two sittings are allowed within a 12-month period.

CDU gives its TOEFL figures on the 0 to 120 scale. Since January 2026 TOEFL iBT score reports also carry a 1 to 6 band score; see the new TOEFL score scale.

For comparison, CDU's international entry requirements page sets standard undergraduate entry at IELTS 6.0 with no band below 6.0 and postgraduate entry at IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or equivalent in PTE or TOEFL.

Your offer and your visa are separate. Home Affairs says that for a TOEFL iBT result to be valid for Australian visa purposes you must select 'Taking TOEFL for Australia' when you register, and it lists TOEFL iBT Home Edition among the online tests it does not accept (Home Affairs English page).

The policy lists CDU's own ELICOS English for Academic Purposes courses: successful completion of EAP004 meets the postgraduate requirement, and EAP003 meets the undergraduate and postgraduate pathway and VET requirements.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your CDU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
