How CU Boulder handles TOEFL scores

The graduate page lets you upload a verifiable score report, and for TOEFL that report must show your name, appointment number, date of birth and MyBest scores date. If CU Boulder cannot verify it, you send official scores through ETS to code 4841 (department code 99 if needed). Graduate exam dates must fall within two years of the intended admission term.

Undergraduate exams must be completed within two calendar years of your CU Boulder start date, and score reports must be verifiable.

For comparison, the undergraduate page and the graduate page set IELTS at 6.5 as the base level.

If your TOEFL score is below CU Boulder's level

Undergraduates who meet the academic requirements but need more English can receive conditional admission by applying without English scores and registering for the Pathway to CU Program; they start their degree once they meet the proficiency requirement. Admitted undergraduates without scores must either submit evidence of proficiency or enrol in Pathway to CU before confirming their place.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your CU Boulder programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
