Does your IELTS booking name have to match your passport?

Yes. The ID you bring must be the one recorded at booking, and IDP's terms say the Test Report Form is issued in your name as it appears on that document. For IELTS for UKVI, GOV.UK says booking details must match the passport exactly, and a changed surname must be updated in the passport first. Fix any booking error before test day through your centre.

Why the names must match

On test day the centre checks that you are the person on the booking. IDP's terms say you must bring the same identity document as the one recorded in your application, and that the TRF is issued in your name as it appears on the document used at registration. A mismatch risks being turned away.

IELTS for UKVI: the strictest rule

GOV.UK says the details used to book must be the same as on your passport or identity document, and must match the document you show at the test location. If your surname has changed, you still book in the name on your document; to use the new surname you must change the document before booking (GOV.UK).

How to correct a booking

IDP India: open your candidate login, select the Data Verification Sheet, check every detail, correct errors and upload your passport copy; corrections are processed within 2 working days. If you already submitted the sheet or the deadline has passed, email ielts.india@idp.com (IDP India FAQ).

Elsewhere, contact the centre or IELTS customer support to update your details (IDP Australia). Detailed rules are set locally and can differ by country and test centre, so check your booking confirmation or ask your centre if anything here does not match what you were told.
