Other ways to meet the requirement
First-year applicants can also use a 4 or 5 on the AP English Language exam, 5 or higher on IB Higher Level English A, or a predicted IB score of 32 or better. Transfer students whose first language is English are exempt after two semesters of university coursework in English.
Citizens of the UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada (except Quebec), New Zealand or other countries where English is the official language who do not meet any listed route are asked to contact the admissions office.

Conditional admission
Eckerd offers conditional admission to students who meet all requirements except English proficiency; you must then prove English before full admission. Eckerd does not run remedial English courses, but an ELS intensive English programme operates on campus. SAT and ACT are not required.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admission cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Eckerd programme page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Eckerd College publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
