What IELTS score do you need for Florida Tech?

You show proficiency with a test passed no more than two years before attendance: TOEFL iBT (standard, home or paper edition) 80 for test-takers before 1 January 2026 or 4.0 after, TOEFL Essentials 9, IELTS 6.5, PTE Academic 58, Cambridge English Advanced 180 (grade C) or Duolingo 105. IB Higher Level English A or AP English Language and Composition at 4 or higher, or ELS level 112, also count. You may be admitted before you submit proof, but it must arrive before immigration documents are issued or you enrol. See demonstrating English proficiency.

Florida Tech dates the new TOEFL scale from 1 January 2026 rather than ETS's 21 January launch, so check which minimum applies to your test date.

You also meet the requirement by studying at an institution in the US, UK, Ireland, Australia, Anglophone Canada, the Anglophone Caribbean or Anglophone Africa, at the Office of Admission's discretion, and earning a bachelor's or higher degree there, completing 20 semester credits including English composition, or attending three consecutive years and graduating from high school; an overseas secondary school where English is the primary language of instruction also counts for the school route. Nigerian and Ghanaian degrees can therefore qualify. India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh are not among the named regions, so plan on a test for graduate admission.

A teaching assistantship needs TOEFL 100 (4.5 from 1 January 2026), IELTS 7.0, PTE 70, Cambridge Advanced 193 or Duolingo 120, plus a pass in Florida Tech's spoken English assessment.
