TOEFL to IELTS score converter

On the 2025 study by ETS and the IELTS Partners, TOEFL iBT 81–90 equals IELTS 6.5, 91–99 equals 7.0 and 100–107 equals 7.5. Since 21 January 2026 TOEFL also reports a 1–6 band: 4.5 corresponds to IELTS 6.5 and 5 to IELTS 7.0. Both official tables are below.

Frequently asked questions

What TOEFL score equals IELTS 6.5?+

TOEFL iBT 81–90 on the 2025 ETS–IELTS table, or 4.5 on the new 1–6 scale.

What TOEFL score equals IELTS 7?+

TOEFL iBT 91–99, or 5 on the 1–6 scale.

Why did the TOEFL to IELTS table change?+

ETS and the IELTS Partners published a new joint study in April 2025 with 937 people who took both tests; it replaced ETS's 2010 comparison. TOEFL then moved to a 1–6 scale on 21 January 2026.

Until when does TOEFL report the 0–120 score?+

Until January 2028, score reports show the 1–6 band, the CEFR level and a comparable 0–120 score. After that, only the 1–6 band.
