It depends on your pathway. For a first year in Dublin or Sheffield you need IELTS 6.5 with no component below 6.0. How old the test can be

For the Dublin or Sheffield pathway, the test date must be no older than 28 September 2025. For the other two pathways it must be no older than 28 September 2024. The test date counts, not the date you receive results. Applications not meeting the language rule when submitted are not considered.

Who is exempt

Citizens of listed countries, including the UK, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, are exempt but may still be asked for proof. So are holders of a degree fully taught in English in one of those countries or Malta; for Sheffield or Dublin that degree must be no older than 29 September 2022. Online degrees are not accepted.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where Europubhealth+ publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
