What TOEFL score do you need for Federation University?

Your results must be valid when your course starts, including after a deferral. Federation does not accept tests delivered completely online (remote-proctored or at-home), and where you hold results from more than one listed test it considers only the most recent.

Federation's page says TOEFL iBT tests taken between 26 July 2023 and 4 May 2024 will not be recognised for relevant Australian visa subclasses, including student visas. Home Affairs confirms TOEFL iBT was not approved for visa purposes in that period (Home Affairs English page).

Federation gives its TOEFL figures on the 0 to 120 scale. Since January 2026 TOEFL iBT score reports also carry a 1 to 6 band score; see the new TOEFL score scale.

For comparison, the same page sets every row by its Academic IELTS score, so an IELTS 6.5 all-bands course equals the TOEFL section scores above.

Your offer and your visa are separate. Home Affairs says that for a TOEFL iBT result to be valid for Australian visa purposes you must select 'Taking TOEFL for Australia' when you register, and it lists TOEFL iBT Home Edition among the online tests it does not accept (Home Affairs English page).

If your results show you need extra English support, Federation says you may be able to take its English for Academic Purposes course packaged with your main course. Completion of an approved EAP pathway course is also accepted as non-test evidence.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Federation University programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
