From The Gordon's international entry requirements page.
| Requirement | What The Gordon asks |
|---|---|
| IELTS Academic (most certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas) | 6.0 overall, no band below 5.5, or equivalent |
| Alternative English evidence | Australian Year 12; Cert IV or higher in Australia within 5 years; 1 year of Australian university study within 2 years |
| Certificate III | Year 10 or equivalent |
| Certificate IV | Year 11 or equivalent |
| Diploma and Advanced Diploma | Year 12 or equivalent |
| Age | 18 or over at course start |
Other tests and exemptions
The page does not name PTE, TOEFL or Duolingo scores; it points to a separate equivalency page for other accepted tests. Applicants from specified countries may be exempt for admission, but still need evidence of English for visa purposes. Courses that need IELTS 6.0 or above are not exempt, and evidence must be provided at admission.
Bangladeshi, Indian, Nepalese and Pakistani students need Year 12 or equivalent with 60% in the top four subjects, excluding native language. Punjab State Board or Haryana State Board HS results alone are not accepted.

Higher-score courses and how to check
Some courses require a higher IELTS score, and the page tells you to check the international course page. It does not list them by name.
Requirements vary by course and can change between intakes. The score that binds you is the one on your The Gordon course page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test. Your student visa is assessed separately, under the Department of Home Affairs Student visa (subclass 500) rules.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Gordon Institute of TAFE (The Gordon) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
