Other evidence of English
For courses at IELTS 5.0 to 6.5, Kangan also accepts Australian Year 12 or a Certificate IV or higher completed in the last two years, at least one year of university study in Australia in the last two years, or at least five years of study in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Canada, the USA, South Africa or Ireland. None of these count for a course that needs 7.0.
Duolingo is not in the table, and the page lists no other exemptions.

Test age and how to check
Your English test must be taken no more than two years before the course starts.
Requirements vary by course and can change between intakes. The score that binds you is the one on your Kangan Institute course page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test. Your student visa is assessed separately, under the Department of Home Affairs Student visa (subclass 500) rules.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Kangan Institute publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
