From HIT's bachelor's degree programmes page (published 4 June 2025) and its master's admissions page, which gives a deadline for the September 2026 intake.

English-medium degrees and which programmes teach in English
At master's level, if the language of instruction in your previous degree was English, you can provide an English language instruction certificate issued by that institution instead of a test score. The page sets no Chinese requirement for English-taught programmes.
HIT's master's page says all master's degree programmes are taught in Chinese, with Management, Materials Science, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Chemical Engineering able to be taught in English; an attachment on that page gives the details. Bachelor's intake is September only.

Deadlines, costs and how to check
The master's page says applications are open all year, with a deadline of 31 May 2026 for the September 2026 intake. It sets an application fee of CNY 400 (USD 60) for self-financed students, a certificate of deposit of at least CNY 30,000, and an age limit of 35 (30 for HIT Scholarship applicants). The bachelor's page lists an application fee of CNY 400 or 600 and a deposit certificate of at least CNY 20,000.
The bachelor's page still shows a deadline for the September 2024 intake, so confirm the current date with HIT before you apply.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your HIT programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Harbin Institute of Technology publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
