Timing matters
IDP's terms say you must tell the invigilator on test day if you think illness or the way the test was delivered affected your performance, and complaints about test delivery must be submitted before you leave the centre; they will not be accepted after test day. ielts.org also encourages complaints on the day of the test or before results are released, because delays can limit an investigation (ielts.org).
What you can complain about
The IELTS complaints procedure lists, among others:
| Complaint type | Example |
|---|---|
| Registration | An issue or inability to register for a test |
| Test day | How the test was conducted |
| People | Inappropriate staff or examiner conduct |
| Results | An unexplained delay in releasing results |
| Decisions | A withheld result or malpractice outcome |

How the process works
Speak to your test centre first; most issues are resolved there. If you cannot reach the centre, contact IELTS. Complaints must be made on the prescribed form. If your case goes to the Complaints Team, it confirms receipt within five working days and gives a full reply within 20 working days, or tells you the revised timeline. A parent or guardian can complain on behalf of a child under 18 (ielts.org).
A complaint is not a re-mark. If you disagree with your score, apply for an Enquiry on Results within the deadline instead.
