How much is the IELTS exam fee in Bulgaria in 2026?

The ielts.org page for the British Council's American University Elieff Centre venue in Sofia still showed EUR 255.14, but the British Council booking system charged EUR 271 for every session there on 14 October 2026. Trust the booking screen.

IDP is EUR 36 cheaper, but had only 8 sessions over four months, all in Sofia, while the British Council runs weekly sessions in Sofia and dates in Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas. Results on computer arrive in 1 to 5 days with either provider.

The British Council's Bulgarian policy uses the rules in the table. Because the booking is made online in the EU, the British Council also gives a 14-day cooling-off period: cancel within 14 days of the payment confirmation and you get the full fee back. If illness or an emergency stops you on the day, you can apply for special consideration before the test or up to two calendar days after it; if approved you get a transfer or a refund, sometimes minus an admin fee. IELTS for UKVI and Life Skills follow a separate policy.

IDP's Bulgarian page lists the standard timings (free transfer 15 or more days before, up to 25% between 5 and 14 days, 75% refund 15 or more days ahead) but its FAQ also says cancelling or postponing within 5 weeks of the test costs the full fee unless you have a serious medical reason. Ask the centre which applies before you book. PTE costs EUR 250 in Bulgaria (PTE fee in Bulgaria).
