What IELTS score do you need as a chiropractor in New Zealand?

The Chiropractic Board of New Zealand exempts graduates of accredited programmes and of chiropractic training in Australia, Ireland, the UK, the USA, English-taught Canadian programmes or other English-only jurisdictions. Everyone else sits an approved English test in one sitting: the academic module, an average of 7 or more and at least 7 in listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Chiropractic Board test criteria

From the Board's registration policy (February 2025). The policy refers to "an approved English language test" and its bands rather than naming a provider; the criteria match the IELTS Academic format.

Who meets the requirement without a test

You meet the English requirement if you graduated from a Board-accredited programme, or completed your chiropractic training in Australia, the Republic of Ireland, the UK or the USA, at a Canadian institution where all tuition was in English, or in another jurisdiction where English is the sole language of instruction and assessment.

Applying from overseas

The Board's overseas applicants page also asks for two signed professional references from registered chiropractors (not family members). Because the policy does not list which tests are approved, confirm with the Board that your chosen test counts before booking. Regulators change these rules, sometimes at short notice. Confirm the current scores on the Chiropractic Board page before you book a test.
