What IELTS score do you need as a dietitian in Australia?

Dietitians Australia assesses overseas-educated dietitians, both for Dietetic Skills Recognition (DSR) and for skills migration. Unless you are exempt, you need IELTS Academic with 7 overall and at least 7 in listening, reading, writing and speaking. OET (350 in each part) and PTE Academic (65) are the other approved tests, and results are valid for two years.

Exemptions, retakes and validity

You do not need a test if you finished a tertiary dietetics degree or postgraduate diploma of at least two years in Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK or the USA, or an accredited Australian dietetics degree completed no more than two years before you apply for a skills migration assessment.

Dietitians Australia accepts IELTS One Skill Retake results. Results are valid for two years and must still be current when you apply for DSR and when you sit both the MCQ and oral dietetics exams, including any resits.

DSR and the visa skills assessment

The DSR process checks your recognition as a dietitian, recency of practice, qualifications and English, then leads to an MCQ exam and an oral exam. DSR is not a visa skills assessment; that is a separate skills migration assessment for ANZSCO 251111 (dietitian). Regulators change these rules, sometimes at short notice. Confirm the current scores on the Dietitians Australia page before you book a test.
