What TOEFL score do you need for Instituto Superior Técnico?

Neither page gives TOEFL section minimums, a validity period, a Home Edition rule or an institution code. The international students page says documents for September enrolment must be certified by the Hague Apostille or a Portuguese embassy or consulate, though originals are enough when you apply.

On the same pages, IELTS needs a score above 5 for master's applicants, and 6.0 overall with 6.0 in each skill for the MEEC double degree.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. The page above gives only 0 to 120 figures, so that is what this guide reports.

For the MEEC double degree, candidates may ask to be interviewed instead of sending TOEFL or IELTS, and native speakers or graduates of degrees taught in English need no proof. The general master's route gives no alternative to the test score.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Técnico programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
