Test rules at IU
IU lists the TOEFL iBT as a test-centre exam and says proof must not be older than two years. Passport holders from countries where English is the official and educational language can use the passport as proof. IU notes that its English requirements may differ from what an embassy asks.
TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. The page above gives only 0 to 120 figures, so that is what this guide reports.
On the same page, IELTS Academic is 6.0 for bachelor's and 6.5 for master's and MBAs.

If your TOEFL score falls short
IU says that, depending on your qualifications, you might need to complete its Pathway programme first. If the admission interview raises concerns about your English, the team may suggest an English course.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your IU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
