IU on-campus English scores
From IU's entry requirements page, repeated on programme pages such as the on-campus Master in Computer Science and MBA.
| Test | On-campus bachelor's | On-campus master's and MBA |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.0 | 6.5 |
| TOEFL iBT (test centre) | 80 | 90 |
| Cambridge B2 First | 169 | 176 |
What IU does and does not accept
These three tests are the only certificates IU lists. PTE Academic, Duolingo and IELTS One Skill Retake are not named, and the TOEFL must be taken at a test centre, so the Home Edition is out. IU gives an overall IELTS score without band minimums. For bachelor's applicants, IU adds that a passport from a country where English is the official and educational language can serve as proof instead.
Every international applicant also has a 15-minute online admission interview. If you do not pass it for English reasons, IU may suggest an English course and lets you retake the interview later. IU notes that the German embassy's English rules for your visa may differ from its own.

APS and dMAT for Indian applicants
IU says students from India, China and Vietnam need an APS certificate to validate their academic documents, and you need IU's acceptance letter before you can apply for it. Its on-campus FAQ adds that APS India now includes the Digital Master Test (dMAT) for some master's applicants, applying from the summer semester 2027, depending on the field of the previous degree.
Academic entry: 60-ECTS master's programmes need 240 ECTS from your undergraduate degree, and 120-ECTS programmes need a 180-ECTS degree. MBAs also ask for at least one year of work experience after your previous studies.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your IU programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where IU International University of Applied Sciences publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
