What TOEFL score do you need for Kutztown University?

First-year applicants must submit an official score, and the test date must be within two years of the date you intend to enrol at Kutztown. Other formal English reports authorised by the US Embassy or Consulate are considered case by case.

For comparison, the same policy sets IELTS at 6.5 overall.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. Where a page above gives only a 0 to 120 figure, that is the figure this guide reports.

The policy accepts other evidence instead of TOEFL: PTE 53, Duolingo 105, ACT English/Writing 21 or SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing 560. Transfer students who have studied at a US institution for a year or more, earned at least 24 credits in English-taught courses (excluding developmental, remedial and ESL work) and have a C or better in English Composition may ask for the test requirement to be waived.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Kutztown programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
