From the international tabs of the undergraduate and postgraduate entry requirements pages.
| Level | IELTS (UKVI centre) | PTE Academic | LanguageCert Academic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate (BA, BMus, BSc) | 6.0, no component below 5.5 | 61, with 59 in each component | 65, no component below 60 |
| Postgraduate (MA) | 6.5, no component below 5.5 | 59 in each component | 65, no component below 60 |
Other accepted tests and school English
Both levels also accept the Oxford Test of English (120, with 111 in each component), Cambridge First or Advanced at 169 or Proficiency at 180, PSI Skills for English at B2 and LanguageCert IESOL B2 Communicator for postgraduates. Undergraduates can use IB English A at 4 or English B at HL 5 or SL 6, or iGCSE English at C/4. Duolingo is not on either list.
Leeds Arts's India page accepts Standard XII with at least 70% in English, completed in the past five years, instead of IELTS for both undergraduate and postgraduate entry. It does not accept Standard XII or HSC English from the state of Punjab. Undergraduates also need Standard XII with 65% overall, and MA applicants a degree equivalent to a UK 2:2.

Pre-sessional English, portfolio and how to check
For postgraduates up to 1.0 band below the required IELTS score, an online pre-sessional course is available through Leeds English Language School. Most courses also ask for a portfolio of 10 to 15 pieces of work; MA Advertising and Branding does not.
The university says the English requirement is an essential part of your application for visa purposes. Nationals of a majority English-speaking country need only the equivalent of GCSE English at grade 4/C.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Leeds Arts University course page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Leeds Arts University publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
