Meiji English Track scores
From the English Track admissions page and the Application Guidelines for September 2027 Admission. No band minimums are given.

Test versions and the no-waiver rule
IELTS Online and IELTS One Skill Retake are not accepted. TOEFL iBT Home Edition, TOEFL MyBest scores and the Digital SAT are not accepted either. PTE Academic and Duolingo are not on the list.
The English Track FAQ and guidelines say no waivers are available, so you need a score even if your schooling was in English.

Test dates and score delivery
For September 2027 entry, IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge tests must be taken between 18 February 2025 and 14 January 2027. SAT and ACT tests count from 18 February 2022. Official scores must reach Meiji by 24 February 2027, 4:59 pm Japan time. For IELTS only, a photocopy of the Test Report Form is allowed.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one in the current Meiji application guide for your programme, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Meiji University publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

What IELTS does Meiji University need?+
IELTS Academic 6.0 or above for the School of Global Japanese Studies English Track.
Can I get an English waiver at Meiji?+
No. Meiji says no waivers are available for the English Track.
Does Meiji accept IELTS Online?+
No. IELTS Online and One Skill Retake are both excluded. Computer-delivered IELTS Academic at a test centre is accepted.
Does Meiji accept PTE or Duolingo?+
Neither is on the English Track list, which covers IELTS, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge, paper SAT and ACT.
