TOEFL sections and exemptions
The graduate page gives preferred TOEFL section scores: writing 20, speaking 20, reading 19 and listening 20 for tests before 21 January 2026, and 4 in each section for tests after. It sets no IELTS band minimums.
Graduate applicants from Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, Liberia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, Ghana and Commonwealth Caribbean countries are exempt. The graduate page adds that a local English proficiency exam may be required.

How to check your score
Official scores go to the Office of International Services; MSU's reporting number is 6408. SAT and ACT are not needed for admission but are used for freshman merit scholarships.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admission cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your MSU Texas programme page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
