How Missouri S&T handles TOEFL scores

Missouri S&T dates its scale switch to 1 January 2026 rather than 21 January. Unofficial scores are accepted when you apply. For GTA appointments, admitted graduate students who needed a test and have studied at S&T for fewer than four semesters must meet the listed minimums; those below them, or who used Duolingo, PTE or Cambridge to get in, can retake the TOEFL or IELTS or sit a SPEAK test.

For comparison, the freshman page and graduate page set IELTS 6.5 for full admission and 5.5 for the Pathway Program.

If your TOEFL score is below Missouri S&T's level

The Pathway Program is for students who meet every academic requirement but not the English one. You take degree classes plus one English course in your first semester (English 1110 for undergraduates, English 5110 for graduates), and passing it completes the English requirement. Applicants with degrees from the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand or Canada (except Quebec) are exempt at graduate level.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Missouri S&T programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
