Graduate: IELTS 6.5, or the Pathway Program

Cambridge English B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency at 176 also counts. In the Pathway Program you take academic classes plus one English class (English 5110) in your first semester, and passing it meets the requirement. If you used Duolingo, PTE or Cambridge to get in and studied fewer than four semesters at S&T, you must retake TOEFL or IELTS, or pass a SPEAK test, to be considered for a graduate teaching assistantship. See graduate admissions.

Applicants from listed countries such as Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Singapore, the UK, Ireland, Canada (except Quebec), Australia and New Zealand are exempt, as are holders of a degree from a university in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand or Canada (except Quebec). India is not on the list. See exempt countries.

Undergraduate: the same IELTS 6.5

Full academic admission requires TOEFL 4.5 (80), IELTS 6.5, PTE 58, Duolingo 115, Cambridge 176, ACT English plus Reading 37, SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 500, IB English HL 5, AP English Language 3 or IGCSE or GCE English at B. The undergraduate Pathway Program uses the same minimums as the graduate one, with English 1110 in the first semester. See international freshmen.

Student visa and next steps

The US F-1 student visa sets no English test score of its own. What counts is the requirement Missouri S&T sets for admission, which leads to your Form I-20. For the wider picture of studying in the US with each test, see IELTS for the USA and PTE for the USA.

Requirements change between admission cycles. Check the Missouri S&T graduate admissions page again before you book a test, and check your own program page, which can set a higher bar.
