What IELTS score does Mundus Journalism require?

IELTS Academic 7.0 overall for the tracks we checked. Mundus Journalism asks every applicant to show C1 English. For the University of Amsterdam year 2 you need 6.5 in each skill from a test-centre IELTS, and for City St George's in London you need 6.0 in each. Exemptions

Some applicants are automatically exempt from submitting a test for some tracks, for example citizens of the US, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand for Amsterdam. But the page says applicants choosing Amsterdam or City St George's cannot be granted an exemption on request. Applications that do not meet the C1 rule cannot be considered for admission or the Erasmus Mundus scholarship.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where Mundus Journalism publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
