How Ohio University handles TOEFL scores

Graduate applicants send official TOEFL iBT scores electronically to institution code 1593. The Graduate College does not accept TOEFL MyBest scores, and its page says test scores are valid for two years. Some departments set higher criteria, and programmes can require a test score even when you would otherwise be exempt.

Ohio law requires teaching assistants to show English proficiency before they teach, and applicants must meet the admission and funding levels before they can be considered for a TA post. Funding offers need official scores that qualify for unconditional admission.

For comparison, the undergraduate page sets IELTS at 6.0 with no subscore below 5.5, and the graduate page asks for IELTS 6.0 in all bands for general admission.

If your TOEFL score is below Ohio University's level

Graduate students admitted without funding eligibility can gain it by completing recommended English language courses or further testing. Applicants from listed countries where English is the official and majority language, or with a recent US degree, may be exempt.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Ohio University programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
