What IRCC's policy allows
IRCC's language requirements instructions say that, even with reasonable accommodations from the testing organisation, a physical or mental disability may stop an applicant being assessed in one or more skills. Under the public policy, the principal applicant and any accompanying spouse or partner may be exempt from submitting results for up to three of the four skills.
Averaged (notionalized) scores are then assessed the same way as any other language results for eligibility and selection.
Using IRCC's language averaging tool
IRCC's averaging tool page sets two conditions and three steps.
| Step | What IRCC says |
|---|---|
| Condition 1 | You could not complete one or more sections of your test because of a disability |
| Condition 2 | The testing organisation did not give you an averaged score |
| Then | Get your averaged scores through the tool |
| Then | Enter them in your Express Entry profile |
| Then | IRCC verifies both the averaged scores and the test results |

Start with Pearson's accommodations
The tool page we read on 30 October 2026 gave entry instructions for CELPIP, TEF Canada and IELTS, and did not give separate instructions for PTE Core. Check with IRCC how to enter a PTE Core result before relying on the tool.
Pearson offers accommodations such as extra time and breaks with medical evidence, requested well before the test: see PTE accommodations.
IRCC changes programme rules and score tables from time to time. Check the linked canada.ca page before you book a test or apply. This guide is general information, not immigration advice.
