Tests RIT Dubai rejects, and the Indian curriculum route
For both bachelor's and master's applications, RIT Dubai does not accept IELTS Indicator, the Duolingo English Test, IELTS General Training, PTE Academic or home-based TOEFL. TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years and EmSAT for 18 months.
Students on an Indian curriculum where English is the main language of instruction may be exempt from the English test if they submit a certified letter confirming English-medium teaching. They are then placed by their CBSE or ICSE English Core mark: above 80% (CBSE) or 75% (ICSE) goes to UWRT 150, 65-80% (CBSE) or 60-75% (ICSE) to UWRT 100, and lower marks to the ELCA 062 foundation course.
For master's study, an English-medium bachelor's counts only if you did all senior secondary schooling plus the bachelor's in English in a reference English-speaking country such as the UK, USA, Australia or New Zealand.

English course placement
Bachelor's students are placed by score: IELTS 5.0-5.5 into ELCA 062 (no credit), 6.0-6.5 into UWRT 100 and 7.0 or above into UWRT 150. The TOEFL iBT bands are 61-78, 79-93 and 94 or above.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your RIT Dubai programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Rochester Institute of Technology Dubai (RIT Dubai) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
