Other accepted tests
RWCMD also accepts Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) at 162 overall for the 5.5 group, 169 for the 6.0 group, 176 for the intensive MMus and 185 for the 7.0 courses, Trinity ISE II or ISE III (ISE III only for the 7.0 courses) and LanguageCert Academic SELT. TOEFL iBT also has section minimums, for example 17 in Listening and Writing, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking for the lowest group. Duolingo is not on the list.
Results are valid for two years, and RWCMD will not accept a certificate dated more than two years before your course starts. If you hold a qualification that is not listed, email admissions@rwcmd.ac.uk.

Pre-sessional English and visa rules
The page says students who narrowly miss the minimum may be able to take a 10-week English language programme, and it links to RWCMD's pre-sessional English courses. To get a UK Student visa you also need to show the Home Office minimum level of English.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your RWCMD course page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
