How RPI handles TOEFL scores

Undergraduate admissions requires official scores sent directly from the testing agency and does not accept self-reported scores. RPI's TOEFL institutional code is 2757 at both levels. The undergraduate page asks you to register for the test under exactly the name on your passport and application, and to test no later than December of your final school year.

The graduate page notes that scores older than two years are no longer available from the testing agency, and that practice test scores do not meet the requirement.

For comparison, both the undergraduate page and the graduate page set IELTS at 6.5 overall.

If your TOEFL score is below RPI's level

Neither page describes conditional admission or a pathway programme for a low TOEFL score. Undergraduates who completed three or more years of secondary school in the US can request an exemption through the form on their application status page, not by email. Graduate applicants may be waived if they are citizens of a country where English is the official language, or hold a degree from an accredited university in the US or such a country.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your RPI programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
