What IELTS score do you need for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute?

TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo or PTE is required of every international applicant whose native language is not English; practice test scores do not count. RPI notes that scores older than two years are no longer available from the testing agency. The test is not required of US citizens and permanent residents and may be waived for citizens of countries where English is the official language, or for applicants with a degree from a regionally accredited US university or a university in a country where English is the official language. RPI does not list the countries it counts, and India is not named. If you are relying on the waiver, apply with a score in hand or confirm with Graduate Admissions first.

First-year applicants need TOEFL 88 (the Home Edition is accepted), IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 115 or PTE 59, sent officially by the testing agency; self-reported scores are not accepted. Exemptions include SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 640, ACT English 22, IB English A HL 6, IGCSE or A-level English at B, three or more years of US secondary school, or a high school diploma from a listed English-medium country, which does not include India. Transfer applicants need IELTS 7.0 or the same TOEFL, Duolingo and PTE scores, unless they have 24 or more US college credits. See international applicants.
