Sacred Heart TOEFL minimums
From SHU's acceptable tests and scores page, which also covers graduate programmes, and the graduate international application instructions.
| Level or programme | TOEFL iBT minimum | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| TOEFL iBT | 4 (old score 80) | Paper-based 550 |
| TOEFL iBT Home Edition | 4 (old score 80) | |
| TOEFL Essentials | 8.5 | |
| MS in Healthcare Informatics | 4 (old score 85) | Old scale: no section below 16 |
How Sacred Heart handles TOEFL scores
The tests page lists the Home Edition alongside the standard TOEFL iBT at the same score, so either works. It also notes that some graduate programmes may set a minimum section score. Graduate applicants need an official score report or an accepted waiver.
For comparison, the same page asks for Academic IELTS 6.5, and 6.5 with no band below 6.5 for Healthcare Informatics.

If your TOEFL score is below Sacred Heart's level
Sacred Heart offers Provisional Acceptance to students who do not meet the English requirement. You can take ESL courses at SHU's English Language Institute or another ESL school before your programme starts, and completing Level 6 at the ELI meets the requirement.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Sacred Heart programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
