How SFU handles Duolingo scores

Undergraduates submit results through their Duolingo account to "Simon Fraser University, Undergrad". Graduate applicants share their certified score from the Duolingo dashboard with "Simon Fraser University Graduate Studies".

The undergraduate page says language exams taken more than two years (24 months) before application will not be considered. Graduate Studies says scores are valid for two years from the test date and older scores cannot be used.

For comparison, the same pages ask for IELTS Academic 6.5 with no part below 6.0 at both levels.

If your Duolingo score is below 125

The graduate page says applicants below the university or programme minimums may be admitted as a qualifying student or with conditional admission, and asks you to contact your programme to discuss it. The undergraduate page also lists TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, CAEL, PTE and LanguageCert routes.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your SFU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
