What TOEFL score do you need for SIUE?

The English proficiency page requires tests taken within the last two years, sent directly by the testing service; copies of score reports are not accepted. It gives the institutional code as 001759 with no department code, and the IEP page gives the TOEFL institution code as 1759. The pages do not mention MyBest, Essentials or the Home Edition.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. Where a page above gives only a 0 to 120 figure, that is the figure this guide reports.

For comparison, the English proficiency page sets IELTS at 6.0 with no band below 5.5 for undergraduates, and 6.5 for graduates.

You can apply to the SIUE Intensive English Program with TOEFL 45 or IELTS 5.0. A certificate from an authorised Intensive English Language Program showing a level equivalent to at least TOEFL iBT 79 also meets the requirement.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your SIUE programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
