Two 2026 guides, two answers
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India's 2026 guide sets language rules by programme (India guide). For programmes not on the official English-taught list, applicants submit TOCFL at Level 3 or above, unless the university confirms in writing that the programme is 100% English-taught. Preference in selection goes to applicants with TOCFL B1 or IELTS 6.5.
The UK office's 2026 summary says TOCFL is not required for English-taught degree programmes, and that a TOCFL certificate at Band B or above is preferable for Mandarin-taught ones; holders who arrive without it must pass Band B by the end of their first semester (UK summary). It lists no IELTS requirement.

Proving a programme is English-taught
Both guides rely on the Ministry's list of English-taught programmes. If your programme is not on it, the UK summary says you need a document formally issued by the university (not a department) certifying that the course is taught fully in English.

Deadlines and admission
The India round closed on 31 March 2026, with results on 15 May 2026. You also apply to the university separately, by its own deadline, and send the admission letter to the office. Requirements change between intakes and scholarship rounds. Confirm the current rule on the Taipei office for your country and the India guide before you book a test or apply.
